Pianist Elijah Fox was an early supporter of HEDD Audio and when he introduced his housemate Kiefer to our monitor range, the fellow pianist and producer fell in love with them and soon got a pair of his own.
Kiefer's sound fuses various modalities of Black American Music, from jazz and R&B to hip-hop and electronic music. Raised with the piano as a family instrument and with jazz and hip-hop as twin engines of inspiration and practice, he debuted in 2017 on Leaving Records before signing with cult label Stones Throw through which he has released three albums. He's also produced for the likes of Anderson .Paak and regularly collaborates and plays with peers including Mndsgn, Braxton Cook, Will Logan, Josh Johnson, and more.
As he explains in our interview, the spirit of the creative process is hugely important for him and he soon found that the clarity of sound and precision provided by the TYPE 20 monitors helps him stay engaged with the details, keeping the process fun and sustainable.
This is the latest in a series of Los Angeles interviews with artists and studios who use HEDD products. Previous interviews include composer Robot Koch discussing his portable monitoring setup, Gold Diggers explaining why HEDD monitors are integral to their music campus, and engineer Blue May detailing why the HEDDphone is his perfect monitoring tool.
